Cuyahoga County to pay $3 million settlement to Aniya Day-Garrett's father
CLEVELAND, Ohio Cuyahoga County will pay a $3 million settlement to Aniya Day-Garretts father, who accused the county of failing to protect the 4-year-old girl against abuse that led to her death.
The settlement, subject to approval by County Council, will be considered at Tuesdays council meeting, according to an agenda item.
A wrongful-death lawsuit was filed in April 2019 by Aniyas father, Mickhal Garrett, who accused the county and two Euclid daycares of ignoring clear signs of abuse and neglect and failing to protect a vulnerable child dependent upon [them] for protection.
Aniya died March 11, 2018 after she suffered a stroke caused by blunt impacts to the head. She had scald marks on her feet and legs, a large bruise near her left eye and a cut on her face when she died.
