Its not a typo, Santorum needs to win Ohio to keep Romney limping until their convention. Most Ds & Is aren't voting any primary races, this is good use of your vote.
Remember how the Rs messed with our primary in 2008, encouraged by a pompous FAT BASTARD.
If anyone asks, tell them, "Sara said so !"

(2,208 posts)It's a really bad idea.
Don't vote for someone who you would never ever want to see in the Oval office just because you think they may be easier to beat.
The universe has a way of throwing curveballs, and you don't want to be partly responsible for a flood of santorum in the White House, do you?
I think this whole "dems should vote for Santorum in their state's primary" is a really dumb meme that's going around...

(291 posts)afaik, GW did not win any primaries from cross-over-party voting, Mccain may have in 2000.
If the poster is referring to voting for GW in a general election, it is not the same thing. Voting for the guy you don't like in a general election because you don't think he has a chance is ABSURD!
Ask the poster to join the club of Ohioians & Wisconsinites who are suffering from buyers remorse over Kasich & Walker.

I would love to see a flood of Santorum from now until Nov, it would definitely result in a cheaper election.
Each to his/her own !

(32,674 posts)refuse to register as a republican. I get enough junk mail already.
I did think about it for a second and then thought, if ricky did by some chance become president after I voted for him, well, I just couldn't live with it.

(3,622 posts)in Ohio at your polling site but you will be required to sign a Secretary of State Form X10 stating that you are changing party affiliation. By signing the form you are swearing you allegiance to the party you are switching to. It is actually a class 4 felony to switch parties for "nefarious" reasons but it is near impossible to prove it unless you say something stupid to the polling judge and for the most part, county prosecutors won't do anything about it anyway.
I am a polling judge in a county in Ohio and in 2008 a person came to the polls and stated he was a republican, wanted a Democratic Party ballot so he could screw up the election. At that point I challenged him and he decided to take a republican party ballot. Later he came in and started yelling at me and wanted another ballot so he could vote in the Democratic primary. I think he was part of Rush Linpballs "Operation Chaos." The incident was reported to the BOE but for 3 years after the 08' primary the sob had gone to the County BOE and accused me of stalking him and harassing him. The charming person at the BOE thought I was the issue until I forwarded him the e-mail I had sent the BOE in 2008 outlining the events of the day. They were not willing to charge him with making false statements about an election offical. The County BOE moved me to a different precinct last election so I would not have to put up with this guy's crap.
I don't think anyone should change party affiliation to try to screw with an election. It is ethically and morally wrong to do so.
I would like to see a real closed primary in Ohio where you have to change your party affiliation at the County BOE 120 days before an election instead of the same day of the election at the polling sites to stop this kind of bullshit.
For more information concerning primaries in Ohio try looking up the Ohio Revised Code 3513.01 through 3513.33.

(3,622 posts)I think it is a waste of your vote. I don't think it made any difference in 2008 when the republicans did it in Ohio. If it makes you feel better go for it but please remember it is a class 4 felony to admit that you are not sincere when you change party affliation. The 10X form affirms you are changing party affliation with good intention and you do sign the form. Also expect to get phone calls and mail from the republicans until the next primary when (and I hope not "if" you change back to the Democratic Party. Until then you will be considered a republican by your local Board of Elections and that information is public knowledge.
Tomorrow when I work at the polling place there will be several republicans who will complain about being registered as Democrats and I will take pleasure in challenging them about changing "party" affiliation and make them sign the 10X form from the SOS! I would love to here one of them say they did it to cause mischief so I can remind them it is a felony, not that anything will be done about it since the law is not enforeable hence my firm belief that the primary elections in Ohio should be closed.

(141 posts)... and although their delegates would have to stay loyal on that first ballot, all hell could break loose if they need a second one.
The real wheelers-and-dealers of the GOP would then trot out the Jebster as Savior of the Party and let me tell you, kids, from my vantage point here in Red/Red Glendale/Sharonville, THAT would defeat Obama in November.
