Marsy's Law headed to statewide vote in Oklahoma
Oklahomans will get a chance to vote on a measure that would put crime victims' rights into the constitution.
Marsy's Law, as it's known, sailed through the Legislature and passed its final Capitol hurdle Tuesday by a unanimous vote in the Oklahoma House.
The proposed law would require authorities to notify victims immediately of their rights and all court proceedings involving the accused. They also would have the constitutional right to know when and if the perpetrator is released.
Senate Joint Resolution 46 further gives victims the right to be heard in any proceeding involving release, plea, sentencing, disposition, parole and any proceeding during which a right of the victim is at issue.
