Oklahoma County may let voters decide on expanding hours of operation for liquor stores
Sometime soon, liquor stores in Oklahoma County may be able to change their weekly days of operation from six to seven.
After Tulsa County commissioners recently decided to allow voters to choose next year if liquor stores can be open on Sundays, residents have been vocal in their desire for Oklahoma County to do the same.
Since the passage of new statewide liquor laws in late 2018, grocery stores have been able to sell beer and wine all days of the week. Some believe this change was unfair to liquor stores that are still required to be closed on Sundays.
“Oklahoma has always been a very business-friendly state, and I feel that this law makes us business-unfriendly,” said Cathy Cummings, mayor of The Village in north Oklahoma City, during last week’s county commissioners meeting.
