quite a fuss on oregonlive regarding the death of Bob Caldwell.

Originally The Oregonian reported that he had been found dead in his car.

This morning the paper reports that account is not correct: he suffered cardiac arrest at the Tigard apartment of a 23-year-old college student after sex. He has been helping this student with her college costs in exchange for sex for the last year.

The paper claimed that the original story was given to them by a family "friend."

Readers are unhappy about the lack of diligence in reporting. Some suspect that The Oregonian corrected the record today because WW is sure to go after the story tomorrow.

Some readers point out that Caldwell was blackmailable and in a position to skew editorial slant in his position at the state's largest newspaper.

Extremely well-respected (by many) longtime newspaperman with daughters older than this young woman. The family must be reeling. One of the daughters has even commented today in the comments section.

I wonder what if any effect that will have for the Oregonians Editorial page.

That really sucks for the family. Its always hard when family discovers new things like that about a loved one. Then make it post death, and that adds complication. And make it very public, and thats that much tougher.
