After $155M Comcast agreement, Oregon wants cities to send money toward PERS

A longtime battle between Comcast and the state of Oregon has ended with a $155 million agreement.

Comcast, according to Gov. Kate Brown's office, will pay the money as part of a settlement regarding a lawsuit over property taxes. Brown's office said Comcast " will pay significantly higher taxes going forward than it would have" under an existing exemption.

As the Oregonian reports, the dispute stems from ways that Oregon assessed the value Comcast's telecommunications equipment.

As Brown's office put it, "Comcast has been disputing its Oregon property value since 2009 and likely would have continued for many more years because several distinct and complex legal questions were in dispute. Under the settlement, Comcast acceded to the central assessment methodology" after agreeing to withdraw an application for an exemption.
