New map puts Rick Saccone in the new PA-18 (Mike Doyle's district)

Last edited Tue Feb 20, 2018, 11:48 AM - Edit history (1)

Conor Lamb, in the new PA-17 (Keith Rothfus's district). Of course there is no requirement that candidates live in the district they represent, but people generally view candidates unfavorably if running for a district they don't live in.

1. New map doesn't take effect until later in 2018

The special election of March 13th will be valid even when the CD boundaries change. However I do believe that should Conor Lamb win in March, he'll definitely have an advantage when he runs for re-election to represent the 17th.

On the other hand, if Saccone should win next month, he won't have an advantage in the next election facing Mike Doyle. Let's keep our fingers crossed. My sister lives in Westmoreland county (Irwin/Norwin Hills/Manor)and I see a lot of "Conor Lamb" yard signs out in her area. I hope that's a good sign!

2. I live in a very Republican area of PA-18 and was out walking this morning.

Saw 10 signs for Lamb and only 1 for Saccone. During the presidential election it was more than 10 to 1 in favor of Trump. It doesn't appear that there is much enthusiasm among the Trumpees for Saccone.

The new map is great for PA, but it does mean if Lamb wins he will immediately be pushed into campaigning for the midterms. Rothfus is deplorable.

3. There's going to be a nominee for the new 17th

after the May primary. That's who I want to run against Rothfus, not the conservaDem Lamb as an incumbent. Lamb can run in the primary if he wants to challenge Rothfus.
