GOP Leaders To Seek Halt To Pennsylvania Congressional Map Theyre about to ask the U.S. S. C.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Republican leaders of the Pennsylvania Legislature say they’re about to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to halt the imposition of new congressional district maps, two days after they were announced by the state’s highest court.

House Speaker Mike Turzai says he and his Senate counterpart will request an emergency stay Wednesday of what he called a “completely partisan, ultimate gerrymander.”

2. Well, Mike Turzai certainly knows a lot about a "completely partisan, ultimate gerrymander."

In fact, that's all Turzai knows how to do.

The new map is fair to both sides, but Republicans don't like "fair". They can only win by cheating.

5. Yes, and wasn't it Turzai who bragged that his voter ID legislation would guarantee Romney a "win"

in the 2012 election?

6. You know, Turzai is actually proud of being such a sleazeball.

And we pay this guy to cheat?

3. Federal has accepted this case and

has put it on a "fast track", but they declined to order an immediate injunction saying: claims of injury from the Republican lawmakers are “not so exigent as to justify” immediately blocking the map through issuing a temporary restraining order, the judges wrote, especially because they favor giving “an opportunity for all parties to be heard.

I don't think the "not so exigent..." statement bodes well for the Rs.

4. Hopefully they will vote fairly on it.

It isn't as if the new map even made the Dems have more districts than Thugs. All it does is even the playing field a bit and the Thugs still have the upper hand.

7. Alito has asked for responses

to PA GOP petition to intervene.

Apparently he did this with the first request, too, then denied it.

9. Federal court has dismissed the GOP lawsuit filed there

Just reported in the Post-Gazette.

The GOP appeal to Alito/US Supreme Court is still pending.

10. US Supreme Court also refuses to grant a stay

So, the new map is it. The GOP screwed themselves out of a better map by refusing to negotiate with Gov Wolf.

11. Scarnati has to pay 29k court costs out of his own pocket

Seems like the judge decided Scarnati essentially caused a frivilous lawsuit by taking the redistricting case to federal court, so he has to pay 29k in court/atty fees out of his own pocket!
