Candidate forum nixed after House incumbent says he can't make dates

The League of Women Voters has called off a candidates forum in the state’s 21st House District after the incumbent, Rep. Dom Costa, said he couldn’t make any of five proposed dates.

“This is very disappointing. There’s a lot of interest in that race,” said Judy Clack, the voter service chair for the league’s Pittsburgh branch. “It’s wonderful for the constituents to be able to hear from both candidates.”

Sara Innamorato is challenging Mr. Costa, D-Stanton Heights, for the Democratic nomination in the May 15 primary. The district includes about 60,000 residents in the Fox Chapel, North Hills, Pittsburgh and Shaler school districts.

Starting April 13, the nonpartisan league invited Mr. Costa for a forum with Ms. Innamorato where voters could pose questions. After his campaign cited a conflict on the first proposed date — May 7 — the league went on to offer four others, setting an April 20 deadline for a response.
