Youth baseball treasurer accused of stealing $19K (Pa. Attorney General's office)
A Cumberland County, PA, youth baseball treasurer is facing charges after authorities say he stole more than $19,000 from the organization. Wayne Crecelius, 53, of Camp Hill, is facing multiple felony charges of theft following an investigation by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.
“This former treasurer of a youth baseball association is charged with using his position of authority for personal enrichment,” Attorney General Josh Shapiro said in a press release today. “The families of these (youth baseball) players trusted the treasurer with funds meant for their children to register to play baseball – instead, he lined his own pockets and deposited the money in personal accounts.”
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the incident and investigation occurred like this:
The Lower Allen Township Police Department received a report in December that Crecelius, who was the treasurer for the Cedar Cliff Youth Baseball Association, unlawfully took money from the association’s accounts.
Between March and September 2017, he deposited money intended for the association into other accounts. “While $19,000 may not seem like the largest theft, this was money that was supposed to be supporting and helping children,” Shapiro said. “That makes the crime even worse.”
Crecelius is set for a preliminary hearing Dec. 20.
