Scranton man pleads guilty in Penn State fraternity hazing case

BELLEFONTE — A Scranton man pleaded guilty to charges related to a Penn State University fraternity hazing death that left a 19-year-old dead in February 2017.

Gary DiBileo II, 22, pleaded guilty to six counts of hazing and one count of conspiracy to commit hazing, all misdemeanors, in Centre County court on Thursday, according to the Centre Daily Times.

DiBileo is one of several Beta Theta Pi fraternity brothers charged in connection to the death of Timothy Piazza. Piazza died after drinking an excessive amount of alcohol during a pledging activity called “the gauntlet.”

Cameras captured some of Mr. Piazza’s final hours as the 19-year-old sophomore engineering major from Lebanon, N.J., and other pledges took part in the forced drinking ritual on Feb. 2, 2017.
