Bill would shorten eviction process in Pennsylvania
A bill in Harrisburg would shorten by more than a week the amount of time it takes a landlord to evict a tenant in Pennsylvania.
The legislation, supported by landlord groups such as the Pennsylvania Apartment Association, was passed by the state House Urban Affairs committee Tuesday.
Currently, a tenant who doesnt appeal has a 21-day time frame following a court ruling in a landlord's favor before the landlord is actually granted possession of the property a 10-day appeal window, an 11th day when an order of possession is filed, followed by another 10 days before the landlord can take possession.
The bill would allow the landlord to take possession on the 12th day, following a ruling by a district judge.
