Corbett Delays Pennsylvania's Sales Tax on Internet Sales for 7 More Months, Costing PA $200 million

http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2012/01/30/pa-pursues-internet-sales-taxes/

PA. has the right to charge sales tax on any business with a physical presence in PA. (Amazon avoids this tax by claiming that every one of their warehouses is a separate corporation.) A more aggressive enforcement of this sales tax requirement was supposed to go in effect next month, which is expected to raise $380 million a year for the state. Instead, Corbett has delayed implementation of the requirement for another 7 months, which averages out to approximately $200 million of lost revenues.

After $860 million in state cuts in public education last year, that $200 million would have really helped avoid additional property taxes and teacher layoffs in PA. public schools, but who cares about that?

Instead, Corbett is asking PA. residents to voluntarily send in checks for the amount of sales tax they should have paid on internet purchases. Yea, that will work.

Let us also remember that lax enforcement of internet sales tax hurts local businesses that hire PA. residents and pay their fair share of state taxes. Those businesses have trouble competing when their competitors don't have to pay the same tax.

You see, if there is not enough tax money in the coffers, he will HAVE to cut public education yet again. Tom Corrupt is doing everything he can to steer money away from school districts and toward charter schools. It's no secret that he'd love to ultimately privatize schools into for-profit entities for his corporate buddies.

I read an article yesterday about some of the local state stores losing money. One I'm thinking of in this area lost $1800 last year. Meanwhile, the hours that the store is open are inconvenient and limited. Again, is Corbett purposely setting it up to fail? He wants to privatize state stores, too. Why keep state stores open if they're not making money, right?

Governor Gashole never did collect any tax money from the Marcellus Shale drillers. Now many of them are slowing down production. There's badly needed tax money gone forever.

What a colossal jerk.

Remember what Grover Norquist said: He wants to squeeze the funding of government so much, that it has to shrink, so he can strangle it in a bathtub.

I think that is why the administration didn't move forward on selling State Stores - they felt it would be harder to slash $860 million from public education in one year if the State had a billion dollars (??) of new revenue.

Tom Corrupt and Company are trying to "starve the public" into submission on his for-profit schools scheme.

Everyday I sadly watch as our state goes to hell in a hand basket under Corbett's regime.

I'd expect he'd still cut education and other services even with the tax money coming in. After all, there's gas drillers along with his coronation to plan for finding funding sources.

(that said, supposedly Amazon will have to charge PA sales tax starting tomorrow---2/1)
