Towing contractor pleads in predatory business fraud case

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - A former towing contractor will serve 2½ years in federal prison for fraud, firearm and tax charges in connection to his exclusive contract with a Pennsylvania city.

Forty-five-year-old Leo Glodzik III was sentenced Tuesday. He pleaded guilty in April to mail fraud, being a felon in possession of a firearm and filing false tax returns related to his contract with Wilkes-Barre from 2005 to 2013.

Federal prosecutors say Glodzik jacked up towing rates so they exceeded the value of wrecked cars, enabling him to profit by selling or salvaging the wrecks.0

He must also pay $299,000 in taxes and penalties.
