The Post-Gazette has a series of dispatches from western PA "Trump Country" voters. Read it and weep.

Here's the thing specifically in Beaver county, Shell is pouring billions (with a B) into a new ethane cracker plant. The plant won't be operational for a few years yet and just yesterday was approved for a conditional use permit. The site prep is unlike anything I have ever seen in my lifetime although I'm sure when the mills were being built it was similar. There are jobs for all the skilled trades, plus civil engineers and engineers of all types that are going to outsiders because there aren't enough local qualified individuals to fill them. Even if Trump would magically create some jobs, I'm skeptical that any of the interviewees would even be qualified to get them.

(62,779 posts)Our local community FB page is awash in Trump zealots, the most vocal of them 70+ years old with union-forged pensions and SSI benefits. They hate Obama in particular and Liberals in general, and they're not too fond of these younger generations always wanting a handout, etc.
When I call them out for buying into Trump's bullshit, noting that he has yet to put forth anything that resembles a plan, they eagerly recite "wait and see," following the idiot mantra of their beloved small-handed leader.
I also pointed out that after the GOP destroys the ACA, they'll go after social security and medicaid, and they'll certainly work to undermine the federal backing of pensions. Where will these fools be then?
Still we're being told that we need to "reach out to Trump voters" and to "understand them." Fuck that. They make it clear that they hate everything that Liberals stand for, yet they understand none of it.
Call me cruel, but if every last one of them starves and freezes in the course of Trump's presidency, I won't shed a single tear.
They're idiots and selfish assholes. I keep hearing that smart people voted for Trump, and here's my answer: if you voted for Trump, you're an idiot. Even here in western PA.

(4,196 posts)Pure hillbilly hell....we used to be such a beautiful blue. I hardly leave the house because two thirds of the pricks here voted for that bastard. Cannot wait to see him fall. Have turned my back on the people I know who supported him and I do not feel a twinge of guilt.
