'We paint signs, not property,' Tim Murphy protesters say

A group of about 20 people who participate in Mondays with Murphy protests gathered at a Mt. Lebanon coffee shop Monday to respond to a Republican statement linking the group to vandalism at Rep. Tim Murphy’s office last week.

Sometime late July 4 or early July 5, someone spray-painted letters spelling “filth” and “rot” on the side of the Upper St. Clair Republican’s Mt. Lebanon office.

Later July 5, the state Republican Party said the Mondays with Murphy group had “targeted the congressman’s office with street antics” and had “no business expressing surprise that things have escalated to this point.”

In reaction to that statement, the group on Monday condemned the vandalism, saying, “We paint signs, not property.’’
