State Rep. Marc Gergely pleads guilty to corruption charges
State Rep. Marc Gergely, D-White Oak, pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to charges of conspiracy and an illegal campaign contribution — connected to a ring of illegal gambling devices.
Mr. Gergely will retain his House seat until sentencing on Nov. 6, prosecutors said.
Also pleading guilty Tuesday in connection with the same case, attorney Louis Caputo pleaded guilty to a criminal solicitation charge and was sentenced to five years probation by Allegheny Common Pleas Judge Edward Borkowski. The judge said the sentence reflected the nature of the offense the attorney's degree of cooperation with the investigation.
The two aided Ronald “Porky” Melocchi place illegal gambling devices in various bars and other establishments in the Mon Valley.
