Nearly 500 paid temporary workers sought in Shelby County for Nov. 3 election

Nearly 500 people are still needed for temporary paid jobs helping run Shelby County's election sites on Nov. 3, the county's election administrator said.

“We need, as of yesterday, about 140 more Democrats and 350 Republicans,” the administrator, Linda Phillips said Friday.

Phillips said Republican poll workers are hard to find in Shelby County, which leans Democratic.

Partisan balance is taken into account when placing the poll workers in various roles. The election commission website says: "The state requires party balance at all polling sites. We staff an equal number of Democratic and Republican poll workers at each site."
