The chairman of the state's transportation commission has revived a radical idea to put some toll lanes on Interstate 35 through Austin in exchange for removing tolls from all or part of Texas 130.
Such a swap which in effect would make 130 the new I-35, at least in part was proposed two years ago as part of a statewide study about how to relieve traffic congestion on I-35.
The report suggested converting two lanes to tolls on I-35, between Buda and Georgetown, while leaving four lanes non-toll.
In turn, tolls on Texas 130, which runs parallel to I-35, would be removed from the northern section, making it the freeway.

(62,439 posts)the 130 has been such a scam perpetrated upon people in Austin.
it was nothing but a sweetheart deal by cement head perry to his crony corporate backers. It was a road toll to no where. Somebody made an awful lot of money on this completely useless road.
it's virtually empty every single day of the week and no one goes near it during rush hour.
so now, just like the new UT Austin medical school (which we the homeowners have to fund by increasing our property taxes, when after that bond passed, UT Austin miraculously found 435 million dollars in cost savings), now we the people are going to be on the hook further because, surprise surprise, 130 not making a dime.
yup, that's very typical texan politics for you run by moron republican.
UT Austin med school and texas 130 were/are being built by the same cronies of cement head perry.
