Republican cites ‘mental health’ claim from Wendy Davis lawsuit

AUSTIN – Republicans are making hay of the lawsuit that Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth, filed against the Fort Worth Star-Telegram after a losing race for city council.

Erick Erickson of RedState zeroed in on language in the lawsuit that cites “damages to her mental health” among the wrongs she had allegedly suffered.

In a post that uses the insulting nickname, “Abortion Barbie,” by which Erickson refers to Davis due to her filibuster against an abortion measure and her appearance, he wrote:

“Think about that. The best candidate the Texas Democrats could find to run is a lady who admits in open court that a newspaper editorial caused her mental health to be damaged.”

Davis campaign spokesman Bo Delp responded:

“This is a strategy to create a false caricature of Wendy Davis. First they called her retarded, then they called her stupid, now this. That 20-year-old lawsuit used standard lawyer language. When Wendy had the courage to stand up and run, they didn’t know what to do except shake the dust off that old, tired playbook.”
