Obamacare supporters hopeful for continuing enrollment

AUSTIN — Hoping to continue where it left off, Get Covered America, the coalition that led the drive to sign up Texans for medical insurance under the federal Affordable Care Act, said its work isn’t finished.

On the contrary, its work and the work of the health care law, better known as Obamacare, has just begun, Texas state director Mimi Garcia said in a conference call with reporters.

“We look forward to build on our success,” Garcia said in reference to the 733,757 Texans who signed up for coverage during the six-month open enrollment period that ended on March 31.

Nationwide, 8 million people signed up during the same period, a million more than anticipated, President Barack Obama announced April 17.
