Wendy Davis goes coast to coast in search of campaign cash in Texas governor’s race
Wendy Davis clearly has attracted some star power this year in her campaign for governor drawing big names as supporters. Among them, Texas greats Willie Nelson and actress Connie Britton of Friday Night Lights fame, who showcased fundraisers for her. Next week, Davis will be with some of Hollywoods biggest power players . Among them, director J.J. Abrams, producer Jeffrey Katzenberg and director Steven Spielberg who are hosting a money-raiser for Davis in Santa Monica. The event will be at a production company owned by Abrams, Bad Robot.
A donation will set you back $1,000 at the door. Co-hosts status costs $10,000. To be called a host, its $25,000. The money will be used by the Democrats gubernatorial campaign and the pro-Davis ally group Battleground Texas, which wants to make Texas a competitive state again after nearly two decades of GOP domination.
Daviss Republican opponent, Attorney General Greg Abbott, has tried his own type of star power: inviting rocker and gun enthusiast Ted Nugent to join him on the campaign trail. But Abbott has distanced himself from Nugent after published reports about Nugents involvement with underage girls something the rock musician touted in his tribute song to underage sex, Jailbait.
Davis, whose filibuster against abortion regulations went viral last year and made her a national figure in Democratic circles, has been wooed by supporters on both coasts. On Wednesday night, she attended a fundraiser at the home of wealthy Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer.
