Bomb threat causes Austin convention-center evacuation

Police evacuated about 5,000 people from the downtown Austin Convention Center Friday evening after a bomb threat, according to the Austin Police Department.

Someone called in the bomb threat about 5:30 p.m., and security subsequently found a suspicious package, police spokesman Marcus Davis said. The convention center was then evacuated.

It was hosting the RTX 2014 gaming conference. Police are still searching the convention center but they have found no evidence that the threat was credible, Davis said.

He said it was not clear when this evening the search would conclude and the building would re-open.
