Gun Enthusiast Shoots Wife Dead. Hard To Believe, HUH?

SPRING, TEXAS -- A Texas man called 911 on Sunday morning and admitted to shooting and killing his wife, according to authorities. As it turns out, Martin Gaytan, 24, has quite a fascination for guns and he shared that enthusiasm on Facebook.

Authorities say that Gaytan told them that he and his wife, Monica Gaytan, also 24, had an argument at their home around 5:00 a.m. at their home in Spring, Texas.

Martin Gaytan claims Monica Gaytan pointed a gun at him. Martin Gaytan allegedly told investigators that he took the gun away from his wife and shot her multiple times, ABC 13 reports.

Monica Gaytan was pronounced dead at the scene.

A glance through their Facebook posts reveals a fascination with guns.

This mindset :

In Facebook posts obtained by Freak Out Nation, Gaytan suggested that guns were necessary for "protection" from foreign and domestic governments, home defense, to fight "muggers and rapists," and because "it's my right."

Sleep with one eye open or in shifts. Alarm systems will almost always scare off intruders. My shotgun didn't do me any good when I had a home intruder. So I got rid of the gun.

Guns are used for self-defense often

"Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year … in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008,”

and effectively
"Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns (i.e., incidents in which a gun was 'used' by the crime victim in the sense of attacking or threatening an offender) have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies.”

No one is saying that a gun makes you impervious to danger, but the CDC did find that a gun helps in self-defense often & effectively.

If you don't want a gun, that's your right.
All we are asking is that you allow others to keep the right to make same decision for themselves.
I don't think that is an unreasonable request.....

Proper storage, proper holstering, and not be so paranoid and afraid of their neighbors and passersby that they have to be ready to shoot in a split second. I'm tired of seeing them brush off an accidental shooting death as a tragedy, then ignore the problem that will repeat over and over, frequently to the detriment of children.

My lifetime experience includes knowing dead kids from accidents, kids with a dead parent, and other people's lives ruined because they thought that having an emergency weapon would keep them safe. For me, the accidental shootings tip the scales toward remaining gun-free.

that you need to be able to stick your nose into everyone else's home because of something that is both extraordinarily rare & has been declining for a century.

There is a reason why those that aren't painfully ignorant about guns don't support your policy suggestions.

Educate yourself. Stop being afraid.
Stop getting the shit kicked out of the Democratic Party because of your irrational fear.

I promise, life in the USA isn't scary. Quit letting the anti-rights fear mongering propaganda of Bloomberg take advantage of your abject ignorance.

Armed everywhere I go. That's why I don't have guns around my children: they aren't necessary. It's an accident waiting to happen. I know of too many families of "responsible gun owners" that have buried a family member.

The United States has an indisputable gun violence problem. According to the report, “the U.S. rate of firearm-related homicide is higher than that of any other industrialized country: 19.5 times higher than the rates in other high-income countries.”

27 other states with more guns per capita also have a lower murder rate than California (a state given top rankings for stringent gun control by the Brady Group)

21. Accidents? From the same CDC report commissioned by Pres. Obama
Tue Dec 30, 2014, 08:16 PM
Dec 2014
“Unintentional firearm-related deaths have steadily declined during the past century. The number of unintentional deaths due to firearm-related incidents accounted for less than 1 percent of all unintentional fatalities in 2010.”

A person is literally 100 times more likely to die of accidental causes by anything that's not a gun.

Suicide? Ask Robin Williams, France, Japan or any one of the 30 other nations with both a higher suicide rate & less guns per capita about that.

I can assure you, neither guns nor life in the USA is scary.
Get out more. Educate yourself.
There's a reason that gun control has less support in areas with more guns per capita.
