Perry calls for bipartisanship in farewell address

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry, speaking from the House chamber "where it all began," on Thursday capped a state career of driving a GOP agenda by calling for bipartisanship and compromise.

"Compromise is not a dirty word if it moves Texas forward," said Perry, whose more moderate tone may reflect his national ambitions.

Perry, 64, recounted growing up without running water before being elected to the Texas House, where he served as a Democrat before switching parties and beginning his ascent as a statewide Republican officeholder.

Ending his career as Texas' longest-serving governor while eyeing a second run for the GOP nod for president, Perry highlighted accomplishments under his tenure. He said none would have occurred without bipartisan support.

it will never happen. The system has been filled with his cronies. Although Texas has benefited greatly from the "fracking" explosion the state as a whole has been terrible for it's citizens. Texas is "business friendly" and the people can go to hell.
