Burning cross won’t deter, Smoking for Jesus Ministry members say

Kinglands, Texas -- Members of the Smoking for Jesus Ministry say they will not be deterred or intimidated by the burning of a cross in front of the sign at the entrance to their church near Kingsland on Sunday night, March 1.

“We come from one of the roughest areas in New Orleans where bad people did all kinds of things. We’re going on,” said Elder Willie L. Monnet Sr., senior pastor of the Smoking for Jesus Ministry.

The Burnet County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cross-burning incident, which happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunday. Smoking for Jesus members reported finding a burning cross near the sign at the entrance to the church located at 1804 FM 2342. Investigators collected evidence at the scene for submission and analysis, according to a written statement issued by the sheriff’s office on Tuesday, March 3.
