Former finance officer calls Goliad City Hall 'a nuthouse'

GOLIAD – Bill Gilmore said it didn't take him long to figure out he had made a big mistake by accepting the finance officer position with the City of Goliad.

Gilmore's resignation was unanimously approved Tuesday night by city council. Gillmore tendered his resignation effective immediately last week.

"As soon as I got the payroll done, it was 'adios,' " Gilmore told The Advance-Guard in a Wednesday interview.

Gilmore didn't leave Goliad without voicing his concerns with Assistant District Attorney Terry Breen. Gilmore said he informed Breen of possible misappropriation of funds, conflicts of interest and other problems at City Hall stemming solely from Mayor Anna Machacek.

has been corrupt. I thought auditors were called in, but even they couldn't make heads or tails of the books, according to an old gossiper I know.
