Burnt Orange Report Endorses Gilberto Hinojosa for TDP State Chair

This weekend, delegates at the Texas Democratic Party state convention will elect the person that will lead our party for the next two years. Of the candidates actively campaigning for the position, we at Burnt Orange Report believe that Judge Gilberto Hinojosa is the best choice, and encourage delegates to support him.
Hinojosa's experience as a candidate, elected official, Democratic county chair, and DNC member provide him with broad knowledge and an extensive network, which will be valuable to him in this role. His desire to focus the TDP on base turnout through messaging and field organizing is a crucial step forward toward taking back our state from the Republicans. He is clearly a committed and passionate Democrat who wants to focus on the issues that our voters care about, and he's not afraid to use harsh and honest language about the mess Rick Perry and the Republican Party have made of Texas.

The fate of the people of Texas depends on our collective work as Democrats to build our party into a force that wins elections at all levels of the ballot. Hinojosa seems genuinely committed to doing this vital work, and understands that it won't be easy and might ruffle a few feathers along the way. We promise to hold Hinojosa accountable to his campaign promises, and actively track his efforts for the remainder of this cycle and into next year's legislative session.

Hinojosa will assume the position with only five months left in the 2012 election cycle. It's not a tremendous amount of time, but nevertheless we want to see the TDP actively working towards a greater emphasis on base mobilization between now and November 6. Come January, the TDP can be a vital force for highlighting the horrors of Republican rule during the legislative session. There is a lot of good work we can do in our state, and we as activists and enthusiastic Democrats must engage ourselves with the TDP and help it grow into the organization our state deserves. Hinojosa has great ideas and enthusiasm, but he and the TDP staff cannot do it alone. We all must put our money and energy behind projects that will develop the infrastructure to turn this state Blue.

Judge Hinojosa was working the crowd last night and going to each delegation. I really feel that he is the right person for the party right now. I also met Rachel yesterday but I really think that trying to tear down the party and starting over from scratch is not a good idea.

I have a button machine and I copied the sticker image on Hinojosa's webpage to my computer and made some buttons. Last night I had fun and gave Judge Hinojosa a couple of his own buttons. My daughter got a kick at how fast Judge Hinojosa put that button. Button machines are fun toys
