Follow-up: Westfield, Spring football coaches and players suspended after brawl
HOUSTON - Spring ISD dropped the hammer on two of its football teams after a benches-clearing brawl forced officials to stop the Spring-Westfield game with more than six minutes left to play.
At a press conference Monday, the district's superintendent Rodney Watson and athletic director Willie Amendola announced punishments for players and coaches. Those include each team taking a forfeit Westfield was leading Spring 36-25 when the game was called and both head coaches getting a one-game suspension.
Six Westfield players have been suspended - four for two games each, and two players for one game. Five Spring players were dealt suspensions - one for three games, one for two games and three for one game.
The district also is requiring every player to complete 25 hours of community service before the end of the school year.
