First Baptist bookkeeper rang up $250K in charges on Carrollton church's credit cards, police say

A bookkeeper at a Carrollton church is accused of using church credit cards to ring up more than $250,000 in personal charges over the course of five years.

Jill Martin, 46, turned herself in last week on a felony charge of theft between $150,000 and $300,000. She was booked into the Dallas County Jail and released Aug. 25 on a $2,500 bond.

In 2007, Martin started working as a bookkeeper at First Baptist Church in Carrollton at 2400 N. Josey Lane in 2007, court records show.

Police say she began stealing money from the church in June 2011, when she ordered business credit cards under her own name, a violation of church policy.
