Amarillo High apologizes to Caprock for context of pep rally
According to several social media messages published on Thursday, an incident allegedly occurred during an Amarillo High School Mexican-themed pep rally that involved throwing tortillas.
We are disappointed to learn of the context of Amarillo High's pep rally, said a statement from Amarillo Independent School District Thursday night. Before the game tonight, Amarillo High students met with Caprocks principal to apologize. We hope this situation opened up an opportunity for discussion about the importance of being respectful of others.
Amarillo High played a football game against Caprock High School, a predominantly Hispanic school, at Dick Bivins Stadium Thursday night. Caprock won, 38-30.
According to a Twitter account with the username @_maddie_jones_ and the name Maddie Jones, which was retweeted by Twitter account @sstudentsect1 with a name of AHS student section, an image with the following message was posted:
