Texas AG asked to look at Hidalgo elections

HIDALGO — The office of the Texas Secretary of State has asked the state’s top law enforcement official to investigate potential voter fraud in the city of Hidalgo.

The Monitor obtained a copy of a letter state Elections Director Keith Ingram sent to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Dec. 9, 2016. In it, Ingram asked Paxton to look closely at the actions taken by six people, including Hidalgo council member Rudy Franz.

“I respectfully request your assistance in reviewing allegations of criminal activity in Hidalgo County elections,” the document stated.

Ingram attached an election complaint submitted by Hidalgo resident Mildred Escobedo, which contained several sworn statements and additional complaints from voters.
