Dumbing down America one child at a time

http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/07/21/2904889/dumbing-down-america-one-child.html

“We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.”

Holy wow. That is, without a doubt, the most frightening sentence this side of a Stephen King novel.

Agree with them or not, you never thought of Bob Dole, George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, even Richard Nixon as less than serious, substantive adults, susceptible like all serious, substantive adults, to logic and reason.'

I keep hearing that said ... and I keep thinking: "uh, not really ..."

At least not as far as the names you cite.

"It's not illegal when the president does it" RMN . . . really?

"Read my lips' no new taxes" GHWB

"Those who cultivate moral confusion for profit should understand this: we will name their names and shame them as they deserve to be shamed." BD

"The political lesson of Watergate is this: Never again must America allow an arrogant, elite guard of political adolescents to by-pass the regular party organization and dictate the terms of a national election." GF

I'm afraid I don't recall them acting like grown ups. But I guess arrogant political adolescents look pretty grown up next to whining "your not the boss of me" toddlers.

I hope all the education rejects don't try to sneak over the fence to Oklahoma.
