LULAC to host news conference on 'sanctuaries cities' bill

Senate Bill 4 drew its first lawsuit a day after Gov. Greg Abbott signed the bill into law via Facebook live on Sunday.

The League of United Latin American Citizens filed suit against the state and key government officials seeking declaratory and injunctive relief to stop the state "from discriminating against individuals based solely on the color of their skin," states LULAC national president Roger C. Rocha Jr. in a news release.

One of the local LULAC councils, Council No. 1, will lead a news conference on the recently-enacted law at 5:30 p.m. today at its headquarters, 3516 Holly Road.

Nick Adame, president of LULAC Council No. 1, said the event is meant to inform the Corpus Christi community of the bill's local implications and to express the council's support for the national-level decision to challenge the legislation's constitutionality.
