My wife's surgery update - I posted this in the Lounge, but wanted to make sure my Texas friends saw it
I just wanted to update my good friends (that means YOU) on my wifes surgery that happened 5/5.
My daughter came down from Arkansas again last week and was a tremendous help in getting us through this ordeal - I dont know how we could have made it without her help getting to and from the hospital and other appointments and helping us juggle the whole thing.
We had been so strung out that Mel had thought about putting it off.
That would have been a bad move.
Our neurosurgeon told us that it was even more serious than originally anticipated. He operated on C-3 C-7 and had to remove bone spurs from each level with major spinal cord compression. He said that essentially she was being slowly paralyzed. The surgery was successful, but as you ca imagine, resulted in major trauma.
In recovery and the first day or two after she was feeling great almost manic. I think a lot of that was just having our daughter here. The remnants of anesthesia didnt hurt either. However the last part of this week have been worse. I dont doubt that it will take some time to get over the trauma.
Complicating all of this is the fact that we are going to have to move in order to save money. Meanwhile we both have follow ups in Ft. Worth, so we cant move too far. We have always moved ourselves, so not sure how we are going to manage it.
We are both working on getting on disability mine from SSA and hers through private insurance she carried at school. I will be going on Medicare in the fall if there still is such a thing by then. My mother-in-law is going to help some with the rent till then. I dont put a lot of hope in my go fund me campaign at this point, but would appreciate you sharing this if possible
