Assistant principal resigns one week after principal who hired him killed himself at school
The assistant principal at a southeast Texas high school resigned Tuesday morning, one week after the principal who hired him killed himself in the school parking lot, according to KFDM-TV.
Principal Dennis Reeves shot himself while sitting in his truck at Kirbyville High School last week after a meeting with the district superintendent and assistant superintendent.
In an email sent to school staff Tuesday morning, assistant principal Charles Simmons said he was resigning not “because I’m distraught, not because I’ve been asked to or because I have another place to go,” according to the station.
Simmons told Reeves he would remain loyal to him, according to the email obtained by KFDM-TV.
