Rally against Islamic Sharia law draws hundreds, including counter-protest, to Capitol

Hundreds of protesters and counter-demonstrators gathered at the Texas Capitol on Saturday over the perceived spread of Islamic law known as Sharia.

Similar marches and protests were taking place in several cities across the United States on Saturday, including Dallas, New York, Seattle and Atlanta.

In Austin, dozens of protesters carried American flags and signs claiming Sharia “enslaves women” and is a “death cult.”

The group organizing the rallies across the nation, ACT for America, claims Sharia "is incompatible with Western democracy and the freedoms it affords."

Since Sharia law isn't in effect anywhere in the US, what's the BFD? The Velveteen Ocelot Jun 2017 #2
it isn't about any law. It's about intimidating the Muslims in America with a show of force luvMIdog Jun 2017 #4

It's kind of like protesting against Luther's Small Catechism, which sets out the basic tenets of the Lutheran Church but isn't the law anywhere except in the Lutheran Church, which nobody is obligated to join.

to protest the "laws" of a religion that aren't laws anywhere except within that religion, Islam, of which there are 3 million members in the US, or less than 1% of the population. Shouldn't we worry more about Lutherans? There are more than 8 million of them. Maybe they'll start nailing their theses to church doors or something.
