Democrat in The Colony to challenge Burgess for 26th congressional seat

John Wannamaker, a Democrat in The Colony, announced his intent to run for the U.S. House of Representatives seat Friday that represents most of Denton County, including Denton.

"'I, Wannamaker difference' for the families and businesses in the district, in Texas, in this country," Wannamaker said in a press release.

U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Pilot Point, currently holds Texas' 26th Congressional District seat and is up for re-election next year.

Wannamaker is a motivational speaker, author and deacon. The Democratic candidate has a platform focused on families and opportunity, according to the release, and vows to be a uniter for prosperity and security.
