Franchisees of Irving's 7-Eleven file suit complaining that company rules are 'chipping away' at profits

A trade group of franchisees with Irving-based 7-Eleven has filed suit against the company, saying it's asserting too much control over operations and imposing rules that are "chipping away at ... profits."

The National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees, which represents the owners of nearly 7,000 franchised locations in the United States, argues that "the franchisor has not fulfilled its promise of treating franchisees as independent contractors and business owners."

In an emailed response, 7-Eleven did not address the specifics of the suit but instead pointed to the company's long track record as a popular franchiser.

"7-Eleven is committed to franchising and proud of the fact that over 90 [percent] of the brand's stores are operated by franchisees as independent contractors," the company said.
