Democrat Beto ORourke trails Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz by single digits 45-37 percent according to new internal polling released by a Democratic group aimed at keeping corporate money out of politics.
End Citizens Uniteds poll, released Wednesday morning, comes weeks after Cruzs campaign released its own internal numbers showing him leading ORourke 52-34 percent, with 13 percent undecided.
ORourke, a Democratic congressman from El Paso, has vowed not to accept money from corporate political action committees for his Senate bid. He was the first Senate challenger ECU endorsed for the 2018 midterms.
ORourke missed out on a different big liberal endorsement earlier this week, from the Texas AFL-CIO, after he skipped its convention.

(58,785 posts)He's been trying to appeal to capital-P Progressives, but it's looking like his creds are rather shaky there. Hope he knows what he's doing. The AFL-CIO apparently wasn't going to endorse him, so maybe he gave the union a slap in the face as a gesture to the Ps? Could he be worried they'll turn on him?
May seem a stretch, but it's the most rational reason that pops to mind for not bothering to show up for the AFL/CIO convention--no matter what.
Wonder what Joaquin Castro's making of this poll.
