Beaumont refinery considering multi-billion dollar expansion

Exxon Mobil could start construction on a multi-billion dollar expansion at its Beaumont refinery within the next year, a company official said, which would make it the largest by capacity in the country.

The expansion, which is expected to double the Beaumont facility's capacity, has been under consideration for several years.

At an analysts' meeting last week, senior Vice President Jack Williams said a final investment decision on the project should be made this year.

It's ugly, nasty, disgusting. I have family and friends who live in Pt. Arthur, PNG area. The drive through there makes me sad. Nothing but ugly refinery nastiness and they don't even notice it. They've lived around it so long, it's normal to them. The refinery is their forest. I'm glad I'm out of there. Ugh.
