University of North Texas, Frisco to announce big plans for a new university campus

The University of North Texas and Frisco officials are expected to unveil plans for a new branch campus near the Dallas North Tollway on Tuesday.

Construction is expected to start within the next four years if the university gets final approval from state officials for a campus to serve the fast-growing area of Collin County.

UNT is to spend at least $100 million on developing the campus. The branch will be a part of the university itself but could be positioned to grow into a free-standing university someday.

Details of the plan — which includes about 150 acres of land in the city — are expected to be released Tuesday afternoon after officials from the university system, the Frisco City Council. the Frisco Economic Development Corporation and Frisco Community Development Corporation each vote to approve a handful of deals that will bring together the land needed for the new campus.
