Package at Beaumont church 'broke out windows, put holes in office walls'

Beaumont Police are investigating a possible explosive device found at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church on Delaware Thursday morning.

Officials with the Episcopal Diocese of Texas say a package outside the door of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church detonated sometime between the end of Wednesday evening worship and Thursday morning school.

Local and federal law enforcement agencies were called to the scene at 9:18 a.m. to investigate "suspicious circumstances involving some minor damage to a building," the Beaumont Police Department said in a statement.

The blast "broke out windows, put holes in the office walls and blew apart the bushes lining the entrance," the Diocese said. There were no reported injuries.
