Yesterday in line to vote in deepest South Texas

McAllen. Ground Zero for the immigration debate, family separations, and assorted goose stepping Trumpian policies.

In a long line, on the first day of early voting, I see two elderly black women. One in her sixties, the other in her 80's and walking with the help of a cane and the younger black woman.

As they advance in line they turn around and scan the long lines. They see me, watching them. I bow slightly and smile. They smile back and proceed along the line to exercise their civic duty, and their right.

I'm left with a lump in my throat and follow them in line to perform mine.

2. Thanks for the report from the RGV.

I try to post news from the southern portion of the state since I grew up in George West, but I'm not there for the eyewitness account. I'll keep my fingers crossed that our Democratic candidates will win handily in the border counties from Brownsville to El Paso.

4. Under a new law, the election judge can let a disabled voter cut in line

This is a case where I would have moved these ladies up in the line if I was the election judge at that location.

6. I actually saw the signs posted. I think they did too.

One of the election judges did escort the elderly lady to the booth once she got to the front of the line.
