Lewisville man wins $4.8 million in faulty ladder suit

A Denton County jury awarded a Lewisville man $4.8 million in damages after he was permanently injured when a Pennsylvania-based company’s ladder collapsed while he was using it, according to news release issued this week.

In 2011, John Devallee of Lewisville was on a Werner Co. aluminum ladder when one of its legs bent, leading to the ladder’s collapse. Devallee suffered injuries to his left wrist and arm which left him unable to use his dominant hand for the rest of his life, the man’s lawyers claimed in court.

The jury found the company was negligent and determined the company knew of the problems with the ladder without warning consumers about the risks, the news release states. The ladder was a Werner Model 354 Type II.
