With recount possible, Gina Ortiz Jones preps for Congress while Rep. Will Hurd works

WASHINGTON — All nine newly elected members of Congress from Texas were on hand for the tour of the House of Representatives and class photo during orientation this week.

There was a 10th Texan present who may or may not be sworn in on Jan. 3 — Gina Ortiz Jones.

Jones, a Democrat, currently trails incumbent Republican Will Hurd by 1,150 votes in Congressional District 23 stretching from west San Antonio to east El Paso, but the race could be headed for a recount.

She said she was formally invited by the House Administration Committee. There are no rules in place excluding candidates from undecided races from attending.
