Memorial HS students spark social media outrage with 'thug' spirit week attire
HOUSTON -- A few students at Memorial High School sparked outrage on social media this week after surfacing in photos with clothes and accessories some found offensive.
On Tuesday, as part of the school's annual spirit week celebration, Memorial HS allowed students to wear jerseys to campus. But several students apparently took that concept a bit too far.
At least a half-dozen students decided to don over-sized NBA jerseys with cornrows, baggy shorts and, in some cases, fake tattoos.
One other student voiced her outrage on Twitter.
"Memorial High School's "thug" day for rising senior spirit week... yes this ACTUALLY happened TODAY at an actual high school but y'all keep saying "racism isn't a problem anymore"... right alright," Memorial High School senior Rachel Goodwin posted on her Twitter account.
