Is Texarkana Texas' 'most dangerous city'?

The numbers behind a recent article naming Texarkana the most dangerous city in Texas are accurate, but a closer look reveals that the city's citizens "are really very safe," according to Police Chief Kevin Schutte.

Online publisher 24/7 Wall St. compiled the article, using FBI and Census data to determine violent crime rates for U.S. cities with populations more than 20,000 in 2017. It names each city with its state's highest rate the "most dangerous," including Texarkana, Texas, with a rate of 1,262 violent crimes per 100,000 people. But a simple crime rate calculation fails to distinguish among the types and circumstances of violent crimes, creating a false sense of alarm, Schutte said.

"I want to be transparent. I don't want to make excuses for things we have no control over. The crime in Texarkana is the crime in Texarkana. We accurately report the numbers as they're reported to us.

"But by and large, all of our violent offenses, they're domestic in nature, they're relational, they're not random acts of violence, and unless our citizens are involved in some type of illicit criminal activity or involved in some type of domestic issue in the home or with somebody that they know, our citizens are really very safe," Schutte said in an interview Tuesday.

.... that Texarkana is one town I never want to live in was when I saw the movie, " The Town That Dreaded Sundown". Based on actual events, it was a low budget film starring Ben Johnson. Creeped me the hell out.

The movie has been remade, but this is a trailer from the original. The guy was never caught.

Yeah, I don't think I'll be visiting anytime soon.

that area of Texas has always had a "reputation".
