'The numbers are real:' Reagor to pay Ford Credit more than $53 million, jury decides
LUBBOCK - Former car dealer Bart Reagor has been ordered to pay Ford Motor Credit Co. more than $53 million for debts owed to the creditor after a $112 million fraud scheme.
A 12-person jury deliberated in Lubbock federal court for less than an hour after closing arguments and returned the verdict Reagor must pay $53,759,450.96, the full amount Ford Credit claimed it was owed.
The jury was charged with deciding how much Reagor should pay. U.S. District Judge Sam Cummings granted a summary judgment in the ongoing civil case Ford Credit v. Bart Reagor May 24, asking Reagor to pay the remainder of what Ford Credit claims it is owed.
Reagors former business partner Rick Dykes previously agreed in a settlement to pay $58 million to Ford. That settlement was not a factor in this case, and was not mentioned in court.
