NCAA ruling vacates Mary Hardin-Baylor's 2016 D-III football title over UW-Oshkosh

The UW-Oshkosh football team lost the 2016 Division III national championship game 10-7 to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The NCAA ruled Thursday that the team must vacate that title because of NCAA rules violations.

The violations center around the UMHB head coach's 2006 Subaru. The coach impermissibly loaned the car to a student-athlete before and during the 2016 season.

Pete Fredenburg loaned the vehicle to another student-athlete during the 2017 season.

UMHB self-reported the violations to the NCAA in April 2018 and suspended Fredenburg without pay for three months and for the first three games of the 2018 season.

"I've spent my entire career as a football coach investing in kids," Fredenburg said. "In this instance, I unintentionally broke NCAA rules. I regret this, and I accept responsibility."
